Hi *|FNAME|*,
Welcome to this week's ArtSites Newsletter! It's clearly a busy time of the year and our
Congratulations! section is full of amazing news to report! We also have a great
Marketing Tip from
Chris Tyrell, which complements the Social Media strategy that I'll be talking about in Sunday's free online workshop,
Social Media for Visual Artists. If you want to attend, there are still a few places left. And, we've also provided you with a very interesting video from
a blind person giving his perspective on colors! There's lots more to explore ... so I'll let you get to reading ;-)
Enjoy and have a fabulous weekend!
Cheers,
Rochelle
The Latest ArtSites News & Developments
HST & GST coming in 2013 & New Legal Name
As you know, ArtSites has really grown this year (many thanks to YOU!). As a by-product of our growth, our accountant has told us that we need to start charging HST and GST :-( So, starting January 1, 2013, we will be charging HST for BC residents and GST for all the other provinces. If you want to avoid this additional tax for your next renewal, you can renew by December 31, 2012. However, we simply wanted to give you a head's up before 2013 begins.
Another small change you'll be noticing in the New Year is that we've recently incorporated and have a new legal name:
Lustrio Media Inc. (We really wanted to have ArtSites in our name, but couldn't register it because it was too "descriptive" and not allowed.) The only time you'll probably encounter this is when you get your PayPal receipt or if you send us a cheque, please make it out to
Lustrio Media Inc. Geoff and I are simply putting the legal and financial structure in place so that we can grow even quicker! Thanks again for all your support helping us get this far! We really appreciate it!
Marketing Tips & Resources
What Art Buyers Want
Here's a great article,
What Art Customers Want, by
Chris Tyrell where he explains that Art buyers want “to connect” with the artist either through direct contact or by means of the information made available. They don’t just want the basic information; they want a “connection” that is an emotional one! I couldn't agree more! What's wonderful is that the web and social media are making it easier and easier to share YOUR story with the world! Build these emotional "connections" and I'm sure you will see increased awareness of your works!

Handcrafted Business Cards
As an artist, do your business cards really convey your artistic abilities? Here are two examples:
Handcolored Business Cards and
Watercolored Business Cards that show hand-painted business cards. While hand-painted cards may not be specifically for you, think about how you can share "samples" of your works (both visually and tactilely) and make your business cards truly memorable!
Upcoming Workshops & Events
Online Workshops
Last weekend, we had
our first two online workshops. We were very fortunate because the technology cooperated and they both went rather smoothly! :-) One of the nice features of this new service is that we can also record our workshops. So, if you're interested and missed them, feel free to "experience" both the audio and visuals from last week's
PayPal or
Build Your ArtSites Website workshops. And, as promised, here's our upcoming Social Media workshop on Sunday:
Social Media for Visual Artists
Sunday, Dec 16, 2-4 PM PST
We'll be announcing additional dates for more workshops in our next newsletter.

Tommy Edison, who has been blind since birth, talks about his unique perspective on color in a short video titled ‘Describing Colors to Blind People’. In the video, he talks about his experiences and feelings when people try to explain to him what different colors look like.
